Here comes the Dirty Bird

Here comes the Dirty Bird

Ok, so you just WON the NFC Championship game. Yes, you are thrilled!!! You have just realized a life long dream and now you are headed to the Super Bowl.  Hell Yeah.  Wait, is that my phone that is still ringing, at 3:45 am.  Oh yeah, congratulation calls don’t really have a time frame, just a screamer on the other line. Great, because you can’t really understand a word they are saying, but you do catch one line. The line is crystal clear, almost like they are standing next to you.  ”What’s that”, you say, in a lowered voice.  Of course they repeat what they said, “Can I get some tickets to the game?”.  Next line, I know you got me dog. Oh, is that what you know, lovely. The best part about this particular call, it is number 185 of the night.  Same request, different person.  For the next few days, commencing the moment you hit the bus after the game, all calls will involve the following. Tickets, tickets, tickets. Hotels, hotels, hotels. Parties, parties, parties.  Here come the request, and they are coming from every direction, trust me. Everyone wants you to help them get into the game, cause of course you have 100 tickets. Not even close.  Then, you have all the request to attend events of all sorts. The endorsement request are up next, so be ready to sign any and everything. Hey, have fun, you could be sitting at home sulking like the team you beat!

Imagine now, if you happen to be a “star” player on the team.  In addition to all of the other request, you also have to make yourself available to ever single media outlet that you possibly can. I mean, nobody expected your team to make it to the Super Bowl, right? They have to know how you made it, despite your 14-2 record. We got lucky, haha.  Everyone knows we were not expected to beat the Vikings, but we did. Now I am trying to figure it all out with my staff to make sure I can focus on football. Notice I said Staff, because I think you have to have one if you are one on the top players in the Super Bowl. I am thankful because my brother Jay, my best friend Drew, and my assistant were on top of everything. I was also aided by the fact that doing media, making appearances, and meeting people have never been issues for me. Everybody wants a piece, as long as you understand that you will be good.  Especially the 14 days before the actual game.

Red Carpet's galore

Red Carpet's galore

Two weeks of hype, two weeks of calls, two weeks of media request, and two weeks to prepare to play. Enjoy it all because you never know if you are ever going to make it back on this stage. So smile, there’s a camera pointing at you!
