A few weekends ago, I had the pleasure of attending the Jarvis Green’s Foundation, charity weekend in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The festivities included a comedy show on Thursday night, and a Wine Tasting/dinner on Friday night that included “Rat Pack” impersonators.

I was very pleased I could attend because Jarvis Green does a lot of work in the community, with an emphasis to help disadvantaged impoverished single mothers. Also in attendance, Kevin Faulk, Randall Gay, Kaleema from Dirty Money, Stefani Vara & Brandon Harris, to name a few.

Hey, it’s all good, we knew what he came for, so we were not surprised when he left. Plus, thankfully Kyle Whittigham stuck around to lead the Utes. Perfect coach, perfect fit. Perfect season, without MEyer.

Anyway, enjoy the show! GO UTES

** Update – I have absolutely NO issue with Urban Meyer. I do not like some of the slick stuff, if you know what I mean. Definately NOT knocking the guy’s coaching ability, the rings speak for themselves. Plus, Meyer gained a lot of browny points with me for NOT mentioning that school down south! You did learn a thing or two at the U, Urban!

By now, everyone is aware of the Pac 10’s expansion to twelve teams. If for some reason you do not know. Join those Geico chaps under a rock! Yeah, exactly….

Anyway, Let’s be clear about this. When I first heard this story, everything I heard was leading me to believe that Shakur’s fmaily is in control of the domain name. Now, I have read several reports that says Tupac’s family DOES NOT OWN the domain. However, a very dedicated fan of Shakur is the owner of the domain. Basically, when you go to www.pac12.com you are offered the chance to purchase Shakur’songs.

Needless to say, the newly formed Pac 12 wants the domain name to the site. I Guess we’ll see how this plays out. But, I can’t deny it Pac’s a straight rider, you don’t wanna mess with Him! HA.

I have spent the better part of the past month thinking about this game. Regardless of my opinion of the BCS, or NCAA, I am thrilled that the two best teams in college football will be playing tonight. Now, back to that month I have spent thinking about this game. Cam Newton has proved to be as unstoppable as Tom Tebow in every facet of his game. I know people feel some kind of way about Tebow, but understand this, he was as good as they come in college football. Enter Cam Newton, who in just ONE season as a starter, has managed to put up Tebow numbers. You can imagine how much fun Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly had breaking down the film of Newton shredding the top conference in football.

Newton posses ability that most can only dream for. All the while displaying a hunger & enthusiasm for success that appeared unmatched this season. Think about this, Auburn’s last two Heisman Trophy winners were Pat Sullivan & Bo Jackson. Although they won in a different era, Newton’s combined statistics, ALONE, are better then both previous winners. Lead by Gene Chizik, the Auburn Tigers have rode the back of Newton all the way to the BCS Title game. I would be remised if I failed to mention that Chizik was not the most popular choice to take over for Tommy Tuberville at Auburn. Chizik has not only lead the Tigers to the title game, but he has done so with a remarkable amount of negative press for his star player. Think of everything that transpired this season with Auburn, you have to conclude that Gene Chiziks leadership has been exceptional.

Speaking of exceptional coaching jobs, how about Chip Kelly. The Ducks head coach is one of the best in the business. In fact, Kelly could be the difference in this game tonight. The way the Ducks prepare under Kelly is unmatched in all of college football. The Ducks are the closest thing we have to the Lakers famous “Showtime” play style. This, from a college football team. The Ducks can score fast, score often, & score in many many ways. Please do not think that the explosiveness is relegated to the offense. Oregon’s defense attacks with the same fury as their offense. Opportunistic, aggressive & fast. All are hallmarks of Oregon football. Lead by the stellar LeMichael James, the Ducks are one of the most explosive teams I have ever seen. The Ducks have obliterated nearly every team they have faced this year with a dizzying tempo that never allows an opponent to catch their breathe. To me, the keys to an Oregon victory tonight are the following. Will the lay off of 5 weeks effect the Ducks tempo? Can the Ducks frustrate, or contain Cam Newton? Can the Ducks block Auburns’ defensive stud, Nick Fairley? I am not a betting man, but if I was, I would bet Chip Kelly & the Ducks will be prepared to answer each question.

The Challenge tonight for Auburn is to recapture the intensity & magic of this season. The Tigers will have to start fast, and be prepared to keep up with the pace the Ducks like to push. One concern I have continued to hear about the Tigers is their conditioning, or lack thereof after a 5 week layoff. Because of how Kelly prepares the Ducks, nobody is questioning if they will be in shape tonight. I simply cannot imaging that ANY college football player on this level would allow themselves to get out of shape with the most important game of their lives on the line. That being said, it is a valid concern considering the tempo the Ducks play in. As Newton leads the hype for this game, it is of critical importance that Oregon’s Darren Thomas not concern himself with matching Newton tonight. Thomas has to play his game, while being careful with the ball in anticipation of the Tigers D-Line attacking.

We could not have asked for a better matchup tonight. Great players on both sides of the field, from the top two conferences in college football. One month I have spent thinking about this game, and I can still see it going both way. In the end, I find myself going back to Cam Newton and his will to be great. What he has accomplished, in addition to what he brings to the table, could just be too much for the Ducks. Auburn will have no margin of error tonight, because the Ducks will pounce on any error. In a nut shell I am choosing the physical, fast and aggressive team. Over the fast, explosive, uptempo team. Either way, I cannot wait to see what happens tonight! My Pick: Auburn

We like to read the numbers just like the next guy. When I say numbers, I mean the stats. Example, over the last 7 games the San Francisco 49ers hold a 5-2 lead over the Chargers. Yeah, that one threw me for a loop, too. How about this one, the 49ers are 1-5 on the road this year. Something has to give, right? Alex Smith triumphantly returned to the 49ers lineup and proved to be just the spark the Niners needed. Smith threw for 255 yards & 3td’s as the 49ers rolled over the Seahawks. This aint the Seahwks folks. Please forgive me engligh teachers around America. But, it aint.

Over the last 5 weeks or so of the season few teams have been as impressive as the Chargers. Ok, the Raiders game two weeks ago was a complete disaster. Take that game out, and this team has been on a roll. The Raiders rushed for over 250 yards, I highly doubt the 49ers can match that performance tonight. Plus, the Chargers did bounce back in dominate fashion last week against the division leading Chiefs. Matt Cassell did not play, but the Chargers put 31 points on a pretty physical Chief bunch.

This is a playoff game for both teams as a lost would surely eliminate the 49ers, while making the Chargers chances improbable. There is no other way of looking at this contest. Considering the stakes, in addition to the overall performance of each team over the last month….I have to pick the Chargers. Here is one more thing to consider about tonight’s game. Philip Rivers is finally going to be playing with a fully loaded Charger offense . My Pick: Chargers

** Update, Chargers NOT so fully loaded. Antonio Gates is OUT **

Enjoy the game!

You just have to love this sport! I am not just talking about football, but college football! Another week, another new number one team in the land. Oregon has center stage this week in the BCS poll. The Ducks have just about crushed EVERYONE they have played. Well, they did get challenged for a half. A few weeks ago Stanford rocked Oregon for a half, only to get stomped out in the second half. The Ducks, as they say, control their own destiny now.

A month ago, we were are all singing the praise of the Crimson Tide. That is, until South Carolina knocked them back into the ozone layer. The Sooners took the baton next, we all know what happened in Missouri. How about everyone’s favorite whipping boys, Boise State? They are STILL marching right into the National Championship game. The number 2 team in the land wouldn’t mind seeing the men of Troy knock the Ducks off tonight. What a month we have had!

Let’s get into my picks. As usual regardless of the number one team, I start with my Utes. Here are the games I will be watching today.

#8 Utah v Air Force

Everyone is talking about next week’s matchup with TCU except the Utes. Coach Kyle Whittingham knows better from history that Air Force is never an opponent to overlook for us. My Pick Utes

#1 Oregon v #24 USC

As much as I would like to see it happen, I just do not think USC can keep up with Oregon. Go back a few years, the Ducks are the only team in the Pac 10 that has USC number. The way the Ducks have been scoring points this season, that number should be very high! No doubt USC has a shot….. but. My Pick: Ducks

#3 Auburn v #Ole Miss

Auburn has enjoyed center stage this week, thanks to the unreal play of Cam Newton. We like to use the term beast, but that guy is a MONSTER! Not one to be overlooked, Ole Miss QB Jeremiah Misoli has been playing well this season. This game may be closer than some of you think. My pick: Auburn

#5 Michigan State v #18 Iowa

This pick is not going to endear me to colleague Jemele Hill. The Spartans have been playing it very close to the vest lately. You can’t do that on the road, in Iowa. My pick: Hawkeyes

#7 Missouri v #14 Nebraska

I know the Black Shirt hype is back, but is there a better defense in the Big 12 than Mizzou? I think not. Can the Tigers do it on the road this week? Earlier in the week I told anyone who would listen I don’t see Mizzou winning. Although my feelings have slightly changed, I still like the boys in red this week. My pick: Cornhuskers

Georgia v Florida

What can I say about this one? I mean, I certainly did not think either of these teams would be in this situation at this point. However, all is not lost in the conference for the winner. One of these teams is going one way, one another. The picks says it all. My Pick: Bulldogs

Enjoy the Games!

On any given Saturday, any team can of course, be beat. Having said that, one of the most frequently asked question that I get from people. ” Can anyone beat the Tide? ” Well folks, I don’t see it happening this year. Saban’s boys are rolling, and barring any injuries they look nasty enough to smash through anyone. Sounds good right? This is why they play the games… So people like me can be proven wrong.

Who know’s, maybe the last team to beat Alabama will get another crack at em? You never know folks. Look out for my Utes! Ha. In all seriousness, South Carolina is a very dangerous bunch. The Tide can ill afford a repeat of the Arkansas game. Let it happen today, they WILL lose this game!

Now, Let’s get into these games.

#1 Alabama v #19 South Carolina

See above! My pick: TIDE

#10 Utah vs Iowa State

Utah have to be ready to go from the 1st snap. Iowa State is a talented, and physical team who put 55 on Texas Tech a week ago. My pick: Utes!!! Duhhhhh

#18 Michigan v #17 Michigan State

I’ll take the Denard Wolverines, thank you very much!

#13 Miami v #23 Florida State

My pick: Canes

#12 LSU v #14 Florida

I think the Gators show up this week. My pick, Florida.

#16 Stanford v USC

How awful would it have been to have been a Cardinal last week? Start out like a gang buster, finish like Barbie. Ouch. USC better be ready to go, Harbough’s team will be looking for retribution. I don’t know folks, but I like USC….just not tonight. My Pick: Stanford

Enjoy the games!
